About Paxos
Today’s financial infrastructure is archaic, expensive, inefficient and risky — supporting a system that leaves out more people than it lets in. So we’re rebuilding it.
We’re on a mission to open the world’s financial system to everyone by enabling the instant movement of any asset, any time, in a trustworthy way. For over a decade, we’ve built blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes, custodies, trades and settles assets for the world’s leading financial institutions, like PayPal, Venmo, Mastercard, Interactive Brokers and Charles Schwab.
About the team
The accounting team provides in-depth guidance to the rest of the organization on financial results and solves complex financial questions in an environment of new regulations, technologies and products. Within it, the Expenses and Corporate Balance Sheet team owns general accounting outside of revenue: operating expenses, bonus and other accruals, prepaids and amortization, share-based compensation and equity reporting, related party transactions, and Paxos’ corporate balance sheet, including digital assets, DeFi, platform cash, corporate bank accounts and intercompany eliminations. We work closely with the revenue, reporting and international entities teams, and we run much of our work through AI agents and automation we have built ourselves.
About the role
As a Senior Accountant, you will own a broad set of close areas across expenses and the corporate balance sheet. You will book and support accruals, prepaids and share-based compensation, reconcile corporate cash and digital asset balances, and account for related party and intercompany activity. Digital assets are what set this role apart from a traditional general accounting role: you will trace transactions on-chain and through to our platform, turn what you find into correct entries, and take over reconciliation processes that run on AI agents today. This role suits someone with strong general accounting fundamentals who is also crypto-native and reaches for AI tools to work faster and automate what can be automated.
What you’ll do
-
Own expense accounting and month-end close tasks outside of revenue, including balance sheet reconciliations and P&L flux analysis.
-
Book and support bonus and other accruals, and maintain prepaid schedules and amortization.
-
Account for share-based compensation and support equity-related financial reporting.
-
Reconcile the corporate balance sheet: corporate bank accounts, platform cash held by Paxos entities, and digital asset and DeFi positions, tying the GL and subledger to bank, custodian and on-chain balances.
-
Review and trace transactions on-chain using block explorers such as Arkham, Etherscan and BscScan, follow activity from the chain through to our platform, and act as the go-to resource for the revenue accounting team when on-chain activity needs to be traced.
-
Book realized and unrealized gains and losses correctly, and maintain the rollforwards and support behind them.
-
Account for related party transactions, including AP and loans, and prepare intercompany elimination entries.
-
Take ownership of our AI agents built with Claude, including the agent that pulls data directly from on-chain sources, and extend them when we add a new chain or a new type of activity.
-
Run the monthly Snowflake queries and Google Apps Scripts that feed the close, and use AI to update or troubleshoot them when needed.
-
Find manual steps in the close and automate them, with review controls in place.
-
Immerse yourself in blockchain technology, cryptocurrency for enterprises and investors, our regulation-first approach, and more!
-
For folks with fewer than 4 years of relevant work experience, this is a hybrid role based in our New York City Midtown office, with in-office attendance required.
About you
-
3+ years of accounting experience, ideally including public accounting or audit and time in-house.
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA (or equivalent) preferred. Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
-
Experience owning close areas with minimal oversight: expense accruals, prepaids and amortization, balance sheet and bank reconciliations, and flux analysis.
-
Working knowledge of share-based compensation accounting (ASC 718) and related party transactions.
-
Crypto-native: hands-on experience reviewing transactions on-chain, with a working understanding of wallets and addresses, tokens, gas fees and stablecoin mint and burn. You can trace a transaction across multiple hops and explain what happened without being taught the basics.
-
A clear understanding of realized versus unrealized gains and losses, including when an unrealized gain or loss becomes realized and how to book each (e.g., ASC 350-60 for in-scope crypto assets).
-
Understanding of intercompany eliminations and consolidation. Hands-on experience is a plus, but a strong conceptual grasp (for example, from audit) is enough.
-
AI-forward: you use tools like Claude in your daily work, and you are either eager to learn how to run and maintain AI agents or already building them.
-
Comfortable running existing SQL queries in Snowflake and using AI to modify them. You don’t need to be a SQL expert.
-
Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, and the ability to run and troubleshoot Google Apps Scripts, using AI to figure things out when needed.
-
Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working with colleagues across APAC and European time zones.
-
Nice to have: experience with DeFi activity (e.g., staking, lending, liquidity pools), building AI agents or automated workflows used in a close, pulling in data for a new blockchain, using a digital asset subledger, NetSuite or an equity platform such as Carta, and prior experience in crypto or financial services.
